I don't understand why the competition between Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee. Why can't we just appreciate that they both had fantastic voices. Thank you to the poeple who take the time to do the video montage of pictures. Its fun to watch. thanks r

SHe was truly a super talent and musician. But, she performed too long after those gifts declined drifting into 'song stylist' territory. But, hey, at that point, she was keeping oxygen in her dressing room! A little respect.

Saw her live in 1975 , St Regis Hotel N.Y. Cool is the best word for her.

All that prejudice against commercial tunes doesn't make much sense to me. Billie sang her share of them in her time, too; that's completely fine in both cases. Peggy ALSO had 1st class backup + many great musicians & singers said that they loved what she did, from Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington to Ella Fitzgerald & even Billie once. (As for your being rarely satisfied, that's ok, since it's your taste. Great as she is, some of Billie's stuff does not satisfy me, either.)

What do I mean? It seems to me that she had a great gift which she repeatedly compromised to for commercial reasons, playing to the white middle class instead of to humanity. Billie Holiday also wanted to made a buck, but she rarely did this. She always had first class jazz back up and instrumentation. She sang from her guts, nearly always. Peggy Lee didn't, i'm afraid.I'm sorry to say this because I know she has her followers. I like her too, but am rarely satisfied.

what do you mean missing? She is only with a guitar, real special not many can sing with one instrument, Tony Bennet does this with a piano... |
