I do realize that, but we are not talking about one of those types of songs here. We are talking about this song, in particular, and this song has an upbeat tone to it and immediately people are assuming it is a happy song. All I was saying is that there is more to music than the music itself especially when listening to bands such as the counting crows. I just don't like people assuming what a song is about without analyzing the song as a whole which consists of music and lyrics.

You do realize, alot of music didn't have lyrics? Such as orchestral pieces, and even some guitarists do solos without words, such as "fields of dover".

This is what I don't get. Everyone here apparently can do a better job at writing music than the ones who do it professionally. How is this song a positive song? Because of the music? Listen to the words. Music is more than a melody, it is portraying a feeling which also includes the lyrics. If you want to be ignorant, please keep it to yourself. This is a great song that is also pretty disturbing. He is a guy that didn't want a girl but when she left he was trying on her clothes.creepy.

Nothing in August and Everything After ever made me want to slit my wrists. But you were probably what, 2 years old when that came out? If you want positive music go listen to some Britney Spears.

Dude, bands get older, their experiences and veiws change, their aggresion at a young age fades (especially after sucess). Its not even musical progression, it's Life.

What you call sellout I call musical growth. Can't write depressing musical maladies all the time.
