YBCO Superconductor
This is a YBCO disc we created in Materials Science. The assignment was to study modern materials. We started with Yttrium Oxide, Barium Carbonate, and Cupric Oxide powders and went through the steps of ceramic processing including calcination, firing, sintering, and oxygen annealing. This video shows superconducting YBCO levitating a permanent magnet. Liquid nitrogen is used to keep the temperature of the YBCO under 100 degrees kelvin.Footage by Leif JentoftEdited by Ben Fisher
